Waypoint 01 / 05

The idea

A Pokédex for real life. You take a picture of something real, like a plant, a bug, a monument or a landmark, and it tells you what it is. What species, why it's there, and whether it's dangerous.

Then it shows you what that same thing could be somewhere else.

Why the name

A brane is an idea from physics: our universe sits on its own sheet of reality, and there could be other sheets next to it. BraneDex takes what's real here and shows you versions of it from those other planes.

It's a fun way to look at everyday things, like a bug on the sidewalk, and find something new to be interested in.

Waypoint 03 / 05

The lenses

Turn the dial and the same scan reads differently:

  • Cyberdex shows what's physically there. The factual one.
  • Yokai finds a spirit from Japanese folklore bound to the thing.
  • The Medium draws a card for it from a deck of time-spirits and reads it.
  • VOID and The Mirror show an echo from a branch of reality that ended differently.
  • Omnidex runs two or three at once.

Every lens keeps its own archive, so a single bug on the sidewalk can turn into five different finds.

How it grew

It started as the real-life Pokédex. Then it turned into my playground for ideas I wanted to explore, and the place where I learn how to make games and apps.
